What is HIPS material?
HIPS material, all called high impact polystyrene, is a thermoplastic material made of elastomer modified polystyrene. It is a two-phase system composed of rubber phase and continuous polystyrene phase. It has excellent impact performance and processing performance. It is widely used in automobiles, equipment, electric products, furniture, household appliances, telecommunications, electronics, computers, disposable products, medicine, packaging and entertainment markets. 12
Compared with ABS and ordinary plastics, HIPS materials have higher impact strength, which makes them less prone to rupture when impacted. At the same time, HIPS material has good oil resistance, water resistance, soluble in benzene, toluene, ethyl acetate, dichloroethane and other organic solvents. Its density is relatively low, about 1.04-1.06 g/ml, the appearance of white opaque beads or particles.
Regarding the safety of HIPS materials, it is generally believed that it is non-toxic, so baby products can also use HIPS materials. However, for specific applications or long-term exposure, appropriate safety testing is recommended to ensure safety.
In general, HIPS materials have become an important thermoplastic material due to their excellent physical properties, processability and wide range of applications.
