Summary
PET with polyethylene terephthalate is the most important variety of thermoplastic polyester, the English name is Polyethylene terephthalate referred to as PET or PEIT (hereinafter referred to as PET), commonly known as polyester resin. It is a polycondensate of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol, together with PBT is collectively referred to as thermoplastic polyester, or saturated polyester.
Features
PET is a Milky White or light yellow highly crystalline polymer with a smooth and glossy surface. Creep resistance, fatigue resistance, abrasion resistance and good dimensional stability, low abrasion and high hardness, with the greatest toughness in thermoplastics: good electrical insulation performance, little influence by temperature, but poor corona resistance. Non-toxic, weather resistance, good chemical stability, low water absorption, weak acid and organic solvent resistance, but not hot water immersion, alkali resistance.
Use
PET is widely used in food and beverage packaging, such as mineral water, carbonated drinks, fruit juices, etc. In addition, PET plastic bottles are one of the most used beverage packaging.
